The Path to Change

*Pun Intended*

Forged in Fire! The initial stage “shows the coin who’s boss!”. This is where I take the coin from a flat, almost 2 dimensional object and give it some character. Through brute force and incredible heat, the coin gives up its preconception of what it “thinks it is” and becomes the ring. Like the caterpillar becoming the beautiful butterfly!

The ugly duckling yearning to be the beautiful swan! After further forming and coaxing of the metal, the ring is now accepting it’s destiny and ready to let it’s true self shine!
Formed and “pickeled” in an acid bath. This is the nuanced stage where the ring really develops and takes its final shape. Polishing and buffing still await.
The finished product – Rings from genuine U.S. currency or from your own coin. 100% legal to make and own. Read here for more information on the laws concerning coins as jewelry.

Custom Susan B Anthony

Clad – Copper/Nickel

This is a custom ring I created for a customer whose father gave him the Susan B Anthony coin before passing away. He had kept this coin in his wallet since it was given to him. After learning about my service from a friend, he decided to turn the coin into something he could wear and show to the world. As you can see in the photo above, i also retained the inner core of the coin and polished it up for him.

Caring for your Coin Ring

(Avoiding Tarnish)

Not all that glitters is gold, unfortunately! As with any fashion jewelry (non-gold or clad), be sure to care for your coin ring using a jewelry polishing cloth (buy here) to keep it polished and on occasion you may want to seal it using a clear acrylic paint, nail polish works well (buy here). Silver will tarnish to some extent as well depending on the % contained in the coin.

Taking care of your coin ring will ensure years of enjoyment.

Keep in mind, if uncared for, coins will tarnish, rust or corrode over time. Take care of them and they will take care of you for years to come! Here are some dos and don’ts when it comes to coin rings…

KEEP YOUR COIN RING TARNISH FREE BY KEEPING YOUR COIN RING DRY

  • Don’t wash dishes or do laundry with your ring on. Many cleaning products that come in contact with your ring that can take off the finish or facilitate the tarnishing process. Why? Because of the harsh chemicals.
  • Don’t wear your ring in the pool or at the spa. Chlorinated water can react with the metals found in your ring causing it to tarnish or turn your finger green.
  • Remove your ring before bathing or washing your hands. This will keep moisture and soap from reacting with your ring.
  • Clean your ring with care. Some rings have been antiqued, which adds a lovely patina that literally can be “cleaned” off over time.
  • Contact Sports and your ring do not mix! Any activity which causes you to sweat can be harmful to your ring or cause it to tarnish and the potential of turning your finger green.
  • When in doubt, take off your ring, keep it dry and safe and you should be all set.
  • If you do happen to do any of the above, just be sure to dry your ring, clean it with a jewelry polishing cloth and wash your hands.
